Through the Storms is written in two parts. The first part tells the story of Marguerite (Maggie) Halloran, a single, "almost" 24-year-old bookstore owner who hosts a monthly book club. The club members enjoy reading murder mysteries. 

Little did Maggie know what she was in for after purchasing an old Gothic house where two gruesome murders took place.

In the second part of the book, Martha Freudigman shares her autobiography.
