At the time the book was published, Dr. Laverick was an associate professor of English as an International Language at the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio. She was a specialist in second language writing acquisition and taught composition courses for non-native speakers.
Dr. Laverick was also the Director of the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) at the university. She worked closely with the Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages graduate assistants and trained them to tutor IELP and undergraduate students. In addition, Dr. Laverick mentored graduate assistants who taught IELP classes.
