Posting on the MANA Blog Short Story Benefits ALS Association

MANA has another Continuing Short Story on our blog that's ready for posts. Last year's short story was a huge success. As a result,  MANA donated funds to the American Red Cross' Supserstorm Sandy disaster relief efforts.

This year, MANA has designated funds to go to the ALS Association.  ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, better known as Lou Gehrig's disease), does not get much publicity. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects a person's nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The ALS Association supports global research and advocacy for those facing the challenges of the disease.

MANA is committing 10% of most of its sales to the ALS Association. In addition, for every 20 posts on the MANA Blog Continuing Short Story, we will donate $10.

Visit the short story on the blog and you will see a photo that serves as a prompt for the first person who posts. The next person who posts should add onto the first post. After that, every person should add to the story of the previous posts. No more than five sentences is needed, but you can choose to write more, if necessary.

So, start posting today and help the ALS Association in supporting those affected by this challenging disease.

Register for MANA's Individualized Creative Writing Workshops

If you're a writer, then you know about the challenges of completing a manuscript. You start off with great ideas and enthusiasm, but by the time you get to the middle of the story, your energy has waned, writer's block creeps in and, unless you have an outline, you aren't too sure in what direction to take the story.

Finding other writers who can help you may prove difficult, especially if you are not connected to a writing group or frequent online writers' forums.  Attending seminars or webinars may help, but there is no guarantee that you'll have your specific questions answered.

Here at MANA, we are aware of the challenges writers face, which is why we are offering another service: Individualized Creative Writing Workshops.

Rather than holding a workshop for writers to attend on a predetermined day, time and place, we decided to have workshops in which only your personal concerns are addressed. If you so wish, send a sample of your work in advance to MANA (no more than 500 words).  A MANA staffer will set up a time to help you unlock your ideas so that you can continue to work on your manuscript. The cost is $25 for two hours.

ALS Association - MANA's 2013 Designated Charity

In the past, MANA has given to different charities and non-profit organizations. This year, MANA has designated the ALS Association as its charitable organization.

In 2013, MANA will commit a percentage of most of its sales from every book or service to the ALS Association. ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. This disease poses a major challenge to the patient, families and friends.

In addition to percentage of sales, MANA will donate $10 for every 20 posts to the MANA Blog Continuing Short Story. The latest short story has already been posted. A photo is used as a writing prompt. The first person who posts uses the photo as a prompt. Every post after that must continue the story from what is written before it. Anyone can post, as many times as one wishes. There is no charge to post.

Enjoy posting and become a part of MANA's effort to support an organization that works with people and families affected by ALS.

March is National Reading Month!

What better way to kick off National Reading Month than to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday.

On Friday, hundreds of children across the country honored Theodor Seuss Geisel (March 2, 1904-September 24, 1991), better known as Dr. Seuss, by participating in the 2013 Read Across America Day.

Spearheaded by the National Education Association, Read Across America is an annual program designed to get kids to celebrate reading on March 2, Dr. Seuss' birthday. According to the NEA, research shows that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school.

After March 2, the NEA encourages parents and teachers to motivate their kids to read books throughout the entire month.

You don't have to be a child to participate in National Reading Month. There are several ways you, as an adult, can enjoy National Reading Month either with your child or by yourself: Here are a few suggestions:
