MANA's Call for Michigan Poets and Short Story Writers!

Map of Michigan
MarketingNewAuthors.com (MANA), an Ann Arbor-based publishing company, wants to highlight the creative and talented writers in the state of Michigan.

This is the first time in MANA’s 17-year history of providing this kind of opportunity specifically for Michigan writers to have their work published in a book at a minimal cost. We understand that some writers may not have enough material or funds to publish a book. Yet, they may have written poems or short stories that others—besides their family members and friends—should have the opportunity to read.

MANA wants to provide an affordable gateway for authors in our home state to have their work published in a book titled, The Best of Michigan Short Story Writers and Poets.

Rules for Submission

• No more than five (5) submissions of poetry or short stories by a
• Michigan resident in any of the 83 Michigan counties;
• All submissions must be a Word file;
• Each short story should be no more than 500 words;
• Each poem should be no more than 250 words.

Send your submissions via email to:

Subject Heading: Best of MI Short Story Writers and Poets
Deadline for all submissions: 11:59 PM, February 20, 2019

Notification of Writers

Each work will be judged by The MANA Review Board. Writers will be notified no later than April 20, 2019, of the board's recommendation.

If the board recommends your work for publication, send a $50 payment to MANA no later than April 30, 2019. You can pay via mail, online checking, or credit card via MANA’s secure site.

MANA will send you a copy of The Best of Michigan Short Story Writers and Poets to you at no cost. All other copies will be made available at a reasonable cost on MANA’s website.

MANA’s Donation to a Charity of Your Choice

If you submit a poem or short story, MANA will donate 10 percent for every work of yours published to the charity of your choice. In addition to that donation, MANA will donate another 10 percent for every work purchased to the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) in Ann Arbor. RMHC is MANA’s designated charity for 2019.

RMHC, a non-profit organization, has two houses that provide lodging for families of children and youth under 21 years old who are receiving medical care at the University of Michigan (UM).

RMHC holds a special meaning to MANA’s owner, Dr. Fairy Hayes-Scott. While attending the UM, Dr. Scott and her sorority sisters volunteered there.

“I recognize the value of RHMC,” Dr. Scott says. “Now, as the owner of MANA and a mother of two healthy grown children and grandmother to four healthy grands, I want to support those parents who truly need the benefits that the Ronald McDonald House provides.”
